The name of Jyotiba Phule is well known as the first social reformer who spent his life for the cause of education and emancipation of women, bringing up the outcasts people by giving them education and equal social status and a very important but often unknown field is of activity i.e. removing the plite and poverty of farmers. Till his time farmer were not treated as septate entity and their special problems were not addressed to, by any leader. Here was a new approch made by phule by writing many articles on this issues and suggesting ways and means for their redressal.

Later he was sent to missionary school. He got married with Savitribai of
Nevase-Patil in 1840. At the time of marriage, he was only 13 years old and savitri was aged was nine. Later they shifter to pune where his real lifework was started.
In the year 1848 he s started the first school in Maharashtra at Bhide wada Budhwar peth, Pune. This was for teaching of girls. In the beginning there was stiff opposition from society but jyotiba continued his work. Savitribai also taught in the school.
