The name of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is known to all Indians. He was the only king in india, who opposed the aggression of Muslim rules on Hindu religion and oppression of farmer and molestation or forcible conversion of Hindu women by marring them to some Muslim persons. All other small Kings bowed to this rules. Nijam of Ahmednagar, Adik shah of vijapur or mughal emperors were dread by them. Even rajput rules obtained peace and prosperity by paying Muslim aggressors and even by allowing marriages of their sisters and daughters to Mughal rulers. It was only in Maharashtra that shivaji maharaj refuse to obey this servile tradition and rose up in arms when he was only at 16 years old. The life and struggle of shivaji maharaj is full of strange events which can be explained as God's will and miracle.....
Maharashtra was ruled by benevolted Hindu kings of North India Since 6th century B.C. to 2nd Century B.C. Visby maurya kings and then by sunga dynasty. In the 2nd Century Sat-vahana kings started their rule from paithana. Then come the Kings of chalukya dynasty . Then Rastrakuta and then finally yadava kings of Devagiri. Ramdev Rai Yadava ruled for almost 50 years and he subjected the kings of gujrat and also Aparanta.
This glorious chapter ended in 1294 A.D. with the defeat of Ramdev Rai by Malik Kafur and Allauddin khilji and fall of Dev giri fort. Then a dark age of three and half centuries started when Marathas were thrown into slavery. This darkness ended with the sun rising over shivneri. The son of Shahaji Raje bhosle started gaining farm and power till he got himself coronated at raigad in 1674. We can make a quick survey of various events leading up to his coronation.
After the victory of Tona , Shivaji continued to capture other forts with the blessings and guidance of his mother Jijabai. Slowly and steadily he increased his army and conquered Raigad, Kondana, Purandar, Chakan etc..... A look at the map will reveal that all these a castle were around pune city and them our king controlled all approaches to pune. All these achievement'swhen he was only 18 years old ! The area around the pune city is called Maval. The meaning of Maval is a small hill. Each Maval was controlled by one brave military commander.
Shivaji's spreads the power increased the anger of Adilshah. He sent Fatechkhan with an army of fifty thousand soldiers. But adilshah sent Mustafa khan to jinjiand arrested Shahaji Raje by treachery. His intension was to pressurize shivaji into abject surrender. But shivaji sent a letter to mughal empire complaining. Shahaji immediately threatening vijapore and shahaji was released. Shivaji was only 19 years old at this time...
